18th March 2020 Coronavirus Update

It is with considerable regret that The Classic and Historic Motor Club Committee has taken the decision to cancel The Mendip Vintage & Classic Tour this year, together with the three events planned for April. There will be no more club events until further notice, subject to the government lifting their ban on social gatherings, and a substantial decrease in the Coronavirus activity.

The club committee will closely monitor the situation and take the government advice, the advice from Motorsport UK and act accordingly.

Official Government advice makes it quite clear that any activities involving non-essential travel and gatherings of any number of people that is not essential, should be cancelled or postponed. Therefore, The Mendip Tour is to be cancelled and run again in May next year as usual, using the same or similar Start and Lunch venues, and of course with the splendid Cathedral Green finish. The Route itself however will probably be unchanged. All pre-booked entries will be fully reimbursed by the Club Treasurer.  The visit to the Smokery at Hambridge on the 2nd of April will now not take place and all payments refunded or cheques destroyed according to preference. No doubt this event may be put on again at a later date in the year by Pat and David Harper. The visit to Fiennes Restoration on the 19th of April that was organised by Stuart Cook has also regrettably been cancelled, but with the hope that this most fascinating business can be visited again at a later date. Unfortunately, the planned visit to Pipers Trimmers at Sparkford, has also been cancelled, the inevitable close proximity to both staff and visitors would not be appropriate, hopefully Mike and Sandy McLennan with Larry and Royston Piper’s goodwill can re-book the visit for later in the year. The Classic and Historic Motor Club Committee has a duty of care and responsibility to protect the interests and well-being of both its own members as well as any members of the public who might be near or involved in any of our activities.

Please visit our Website for any club news or updates. We will continue to send out our monthly Club Classix Magazine as usual, which will have any updates if and when available. Your Club Committee contact details are in the Classix Magazine.

Take care – keep safe
