Forde Abbey Trip 15th June 2025

The start will be at Hilliers Garden Centre, Cheddar (BS27 3RU), signing on from 9.30 (if we could have a couple of volunteers to arrive a little earlier that would be very helpful), with the first car leaving at 10. Tea, coffee cakes and breakfasts are available at the garden centre restaurant.

The picturesque drive to Forde Abbey will take about 90 mins, and once there we have been given special permission to park together on the lawn beside the house. It is a beautiful place for a picnic, or alternatively light lunches are available on site at the Abbot’s Table cafe.

Entrance to the gardens is £15 or £19 for the house and gardens. Historic House members are free, on showing their in date membership card. Entry fee for this event is £5 plus £15 or £19 or if you are a member it will just be the £5.

Forde Abbey is a privately owned former Cistercian monastery in Dorset, England, with a postal address in Chard, Somerset. The house and gardens are run as a tourist attraction while the 1,600-acre (650 ha) estate is farmed to provide additional revenue. Forde Abbey is a Grade I listed building.

Forde Abbey is Home to the highest powered fountain in the country, the award-winning gardens include topiary-lined vistas, colourful herbaceous borders, an arboretum, and a bog garden, which together with swathes of early Spring bulbs and camellias provide all year-round interest. Designed to incorporate both the formal and informal aspects of garden design, the straight lines give way to meandering pathways the further you head away from the house, with plenty of benches and seating to admire the views along the way.

Entry forms are in may Classix.
