A Grand Day Out!

SATURDAY 20th AUGUST, 2022

Having been postponed due to Covid, we are now looking forward to a ‘Grand Day Out’ at the Taunton Vale Polo Club, Orchard Portman, Taunton TA3 5DQ.

The Club was founded in 1911 by the Officers of the Regimental Depot of the Somerset Light Infantry.  It is the second oldest ground in England, and is set in beautiful countryside with a backdrop of the Blackdown Hills.

Here, we shall be privileged to ‘ring-side’  parking for the semi-final of The Houldsworth Cup Tournament, a prestigious event in the Polo Club calendar.  Fingers crossed, it will be a glorious day, so please bring your picnic chairs so that you may sit out and soak up the atmosphere of the occasion!

We will meet in the delightful gardens of John & Nancy Alcock at Cross Farm, Yarley, BA5 1PA, where refreshments will be served from 10:30 am, after which we will leave for a leisurely drive of 27 miles which will take us across the levels & moors of Somerset, to arrive at the Polo Club on the outskirts of Taunton by 1:00 pm and in good time for the start of the day’s proceedings at 1:30 pm.

Please bring a picnic lunch, although there will also be a hog roast on site, and hot & cold drinks will be available to buy at the Club House bar (cash payment only).

Well-behaved dogs are welcome if kept on leads to stop them going onto the pitch!

The polo match will finish at about 3:30 pm, but you are free to leave at earlier intervals if necessary.

NB: This event is for C&H CLUB MEMBERS ONLY.

Please enter early! The closing date is Sunday 14th August, 2022.
